Gas Barbeque
Gas barbeques use propane gas, lava rocks are placed over the gas burners, this spreads the heat more evenly and provides something for the dripping juices to fall onto, this is partly what give BBQ food it's unique taste. Food is cooked from the heat generated form the lava rocks and from the burners. High flames or "flare ups" are less common with gas barbecues, however as lava rock is porous, the rocks absorb fat so flare up of the flames becomes more likely over time.
These types of BBQ's are easy to light and easy to control the temperature, unlike traditional charcoal barbeques. Even though these are generally the most popular types of barbeques, many argue they don't provide the same flavour to the food that charcoal or wood barbeques give. If you do want to change the taste of food from a gas bbq, you can always throw on 1 or 2 pieces of traditional bbq charcoal, remember to make sure the charcoal is burning well and preferably grey in colour before cooking.
