When looking to choose a credit card you need to take a number of factors into consideration.

There are a lot of different credit cards available and just as many firms eager to issue you one, so take your time and do a little research to find the best credit card for your requirements.

If you find the right one you could save quite a bit of money on interest and fees, but before you apply for credit cards you should be clear about how you will use them, as this will determine your ideal programme.

Before you compare credit cards, you should determine why you need one, how much you may need to charge at one particular time, how it would suit you to pay back the money you borrow, and whether special offers and credit card deals interest you.

Different credit cards will give you advantages for different paying structures. For example, if you want to pay off the entire balance each month, or just a portion, there are established best credit cards for each option.

Alternatively, if you want to be able to earn rewards, cash back, or airline miles for everyday purchases, certain cards will allow you to do this while other issuers don’t offer this scheme.

If you want to be able to charge a large amount to the card at any one time, such as for business buying, you may need a card with very high or no spending limits.

Other factors that affect which credit card will be right for you include your age, credit rating, spending needs, the number of credit cards you already have, and your income. Remember that the APR of the credit card means the annual percentage rate of charge (the interest you pay). This is one of the most useful factors to research when making your credit card comparison.

All credit card issuers have to tell you what their APR is, and this will vary from company to company.

Generally, the lower the APR the better it is for you, although some cards charge higher APRs but give better deals and cash advances. Again, it all depends on what you want to use the credit card for.
